I thought for my first blog post, I would introduce myself, and the best way I thought how, was through my tattoos. Tattoo's in today's society are very common, and more and more people receive them on a daily basis. Mine in particular don't all tell stories, and not all tattoo's need to...
The first tattoo I got was on my left hip. It is my aunt's birthday in Roman numerals; May 6, 1944. If you know me personally, you would know the tragic story of her death that has affected myself and my family. She was a beautiful woman that I made sure I will always remember.
The second tattoo I got was down my spine, and it says "Everything happens for a reason". This is a cheesy, over-used quote that I love! It is one of my mom's sayings and it is a reminder to stay positive on a day to day basis and remember that life isn't perfect, but live life how you want. I am a huge believer in karma and I think that doing a good or bad thing in life will reflect on your life in a positive or negative way.
The third/fourth tattoo(s) I got were my Om symbol on my right ring finger and the word "Zlato" on my right upper inner arm where the elbow bend is. I got these two on the same day. The Om is a reminder to be at peace with everything. It is a reminder to breathe and focus. It is a symbol used for the practice of meditation and yoga and theres not a day that goes by that I don't fall in love with it over and over again.
"Zlato" means gold/darling, in Croatian. My mom's side of the family is Croatian and my grandma has been calling me this my whole life. My grandma is one of the most loving people I know, and is my only grandparent that is still alive. This was drawn out by Kethy Wang.
My fifth tattoo is my cow skull on my right upper inner arm. This cow skull is from a painting called "Cow skull with calico roses" By Georgia O'Keeffe. I have loved this painting for many years, and I am a huge lover of art history, and art in general, and I had to have this on my body. My other two favourite artists are Gustav Klimt and Frida Khalo.
My sixth tattoo was a dagger through a flower. I actually saw this picture on tumblr, and I had my tattoo artist change up quite a bit. I love this tattoo a lot. This tattoo has such great shading and line work and is very feminine but also edgy which is similar to my attitude and style. I always knew i wanted a dagger, and I have absolutely no idea why!
My seventh tattoo was a heart on my right wrist. My mom, brother and I were out for dinner and drinks one night and we randomly thought it was a good idea to get a matching tattoo. We called a local tattoo shop and got them! My brother decided to get his filled in, but my mom and I left the outline.
My eighth tattoo is my half sleeve of a Thai Buddha sitting on a lotus flower on my right arm on the upper half. I currently only have the outline and will be filling the outline in with grey/black. I have grown up with Buddhism in my life since I was born. My aunt that is deceased lived in Thailand and China and had sent me small Buddha figurines and elephants my whole life. When I was 16, I had to opportunity to go visit China for 12 days. I spend my days in Shanghai, Beijing, and Hong Kong. My tattoo represents my upbringing of Buddhism and also my adventures in China. The clouds around the Buddha represent when I was in Hong Kong visiting the Tian Tan Buddha up in the mountains. It was during the day with the most beautiful sunny and hot weather with clouds surrounding it.
I am currently working on getting a full sleeve on my right arm!
